I am trying to find out who my GG grandfather's wife's parents are. I have the following details:
John Hy Dunn (1828 - 1906) married Mary Isabella Donkin (c1831 - 1886) in 1852 see below:

I thought Mary's parents were Henry Donkin & Jane Smith but now I think this is wrong I think her father was Henry but the mother was not Jane Smith can anyone help? Mary Isabella's birth was in Birtley, Northumberland.

Someone contacted me and told me that I had the wrong wife for Henry Donkin in my tree she told me that Jane Smith is her relative and that one of the children had the middle name Smith after Jane. I am now unsure that this is the correct wife of Henry Donkin.

Mary Isabella Donkin's husband is John Hy Dunn born b 1828 Wark Northumberland his father was from South Shields and his mother was born within the registration district of Bellingham.

John & Mary were married in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1852 and lived in Newcastle upon Tyne, Mary died in 1886 and was buried in Elswick, Newcastle upon tyne. John had a paper staining and manufacturing company. I don't know how I can tell who his wife's parents are if Jane Smith is not correct.

I don't know much at all about the family, my father never met his father's family. My father's father according to the family shamed them because he drank too much and did not take enough responsibility in the family business.

Due to this we only know the information that my father was told by his father.

On the marriage certificate for my father's father it states Matthew paper maker, this backed up what my father told me. It is quite difficult when there has been a rift in the family. My father's father died before I was born in South Shields.

Afraid its a bit complicated.

There is no Mary Isabella in the second option it makes sense that it was Jane Smith but the woman that contacted me was certain its not.

I would ask this contact how they know that Jane Smith is not yours. I would say the records seem to favour your understanding
