I thought I posted this message yesterday but can't find it now so, here goes again.

My Great Great Grandfather Austin Smith was born in Wilmot Nova Scotia on 15th March 1823. I know this from his British Merchant Navy papers.

My problem is that I can't find a birth record for him. I do know that his Father was called Jonathan Smith, was a Farmer and was deceased by 1858 when Austin was married in Liverpool.

I think I have a family for him in Wilmot and before that New York but He's not mentioned although there is a gap where he would fit quite nicely. I don't want to give him someone else's family but I just don't know how to get around it.

Is anyone able to help please?
