Hello,

My name is Sian and I have been researching Family History for approximately 15 years. I have one big brickwall in my family tree and in all this time have not managed to solve it. I equally enjoy doing the trees of my friends and family.

I have found first and second cousins previously unknown to me and become close to them as well as making some wonderful friends through my hobby. I am at the moment helping with the archiving of the papers and history of Cardigan Castle which is being restored over the next three years.

I would say that I am probably addicted to Family History as when I find a relative I like to read up all the relevant history surrounding the period in which they lived. History was never like that when I was at school. I have particularly strong connections with the US and Canada. My daughter was born in Maine and my daughter in law is from Washington State. My grandmother grew up in Halifax Nova Scotia. My daughter and I travelled there recently to trace family. It is a lovely place and we met many lovely people. One side of my family is Army back to 1760 every generation having at least one in the Army.

If anyone needs help with their family history in Wales in particular Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire I would be willing to see if I can help.

Hwyll
Sian

Hi, I'm Don, living in Charlotte NC USA. Originally from Liverpool UK
I decided yesterday that I needed to leave the kids some idea of who their ancestors were and then realized I didn't know.
So I'm completely new to this whole thing and I know nothing about how to research.
Checked out all the 'search for free' sites and found that none of them are free.
Just came across this site today and I look forward to reading how the experts track down their ancestors.

Hello to anyone and everyone who happens to open this thread! I'm Soryn, I have a geneology and history obsession that seems to grow with each knew thing learned and discovered. My maiden name is Gross and my married name is Sims. I have a fairly complete Gross family tree but I could never possibly know enough details about my ancestors' lives. My husband's family tree is relatively unknown and we've only just begun to explore it.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi
My name is Tom, I live in Ely, Cambridgeshire. I'm interested family History Especially my Granddad's (My Mums father) When my parents split up I changed my surname to my mums maiden surname (Bonnett) Being told by my granddad that he was told we were originally French/French Descent...But its been a real pain to find when they came over, I know it was before 1810, Maybe Huguenots.
Ill post in a relevant forum soon :)

Hi,

My name is Chris , I live in Ealing West London. I am currently studying for a BA in History at Birkbeck University. I have always been interested in Family History and my mum and a cousin have done an extensive family tree for my maternal side of the family.

I decided to start my own research on my paternal side, surname Maughan, and thought I would join this forum as I know I am going to get stuck at some point and sure this place will be of great value.
