I have just looked at an old reproduction o/s map of my home town area. It has not changed much at all.
But it has thrown up some of the villages and hamlets that have been merged into each other, and some actual names have 'vanished', only to re-emerge as a general area of todays villages and towns.
There is quite a lot of detail on the old map that isn't on the new one.
Now I can re-evaluate the farms and areas that my rellies worked on, as they now show up on the old map.
The map is dated 1871 and worth every penny I spent on it. Something else to put on the wall.

I love looking through oldmaps. Another map thats a good source is the Charles Booth povety map of London, got it somewhere probaly in the loft. It comes in four pieces so a lot of space is needed.

Hi

I have several old OS maps of London. I have ones for the 1860s and 1870s of Westminster, Bow, Holborn, Islington, Lambeth, Camden Town the lot. They are really good.

I also have A to Z of Victorian London.
