Hi Marie,
Found this on Galway ancestors site,
James Bowie born 1st qtr 1822 reg 2nd qtr 1822
Dunmore parish County Galway.

this could be your James,
in years gone by Gaelic was Irelands 1st language and is still spoken fluently in certain parts of Ireland though not as widespread, a lot of people of irish decent have shunned learning gaelic now which is a shame as it is a lovely language to hear spoken.
The surname Bowie is quite popular around the Galway region of Ireland.
Hope this helps

this particular person was true to Ireland. and he's my favorite person cause he was real pioneer stock. rough, tumble but a real man. love him very much. i dont know why he went to America.
