Hello

I thought I might just mention has any one whilst looking into death certificates ever come across a reason for death as a "shock due to a vistitation from God" one of my ancestors left this world because of it.
There was an inquest which at some point I must try to get information on but it does sound very interesting, I am sure it is a very flowery way to register something quite simple:D

That raises a lot of questions. How interesting - let us know what you find out.

It usually means died of natural causes. Its quite common on death certificates of the elderly especially those who died in the workhouse.

Hello

Richard Pullinger (that is who he was) was actually at work at the time of this mysterious departure, he was a waiter in a hotel in the centre of Birmingham, so it becomes evan more strange.

I suppose what they meant was that his death was not suspicious and that he died either of a heart attack or stroke.

How spooky - have just been listening to a radio news report about ' Sudden Adult Death Syndrome', and then randomly browsed to this thread!

It appears he may have died from a heart attack, but there is a train of thought that says when this is written on a death certificate in times gone by that the person had led a terrible life and God had decided enough was enough. Then another idea was that he lead such a blameless life God decided he would just go quickly and not suffer.
Knowing my family neither would be the case, he probably died from a heart attack or shortage of blood to the brain, either way it must have been a shock to the family and he deid just before Christmas as well.
Another of my ancesters died under anasthaetic whilst having an operation, so we seem to "pop" off quite suddenly. !!!!!!

I will keep you informed, I should try to get more information from the inquest.

As there was an inquest - was the choroner the informant on the death cert? Apparently, because they were not medically qualified in those days, this was the cause of death recorded by choroners, when they found that someone died of natural causes. (YFT magazine, no. 56). Sorry, but looks likeyou may not find the mystery you are hoping for here!

Good hunting! Joy
