Would someone be kind enough to look at the 1891 census please? I think the above (born c1875) was living, along with her sister Alice E and brother Thomas W, with Edward & Emily Brown & their family in Holborn. I just wondered whether the census shows her relationship to them.
Many thanks

Hi Steve
Yes please, any help will be gratefully received!
I believe Harriett's maiden name was Jenkins. She married my great great grandfather, Henry Brown, in 1870. They had 3 children - Alice Elizabeth (b 19/02/1872), Thomas William (b 06/10/1873) and my great grandmother, Magdalene Hetty (known as Hetty or Etty on some records & b 15/11/1875). Henry died, aged 30, in 1877 and Harriett married Robert Scott in 1881.
From the family bible that my aunt has, Harriett was b 09/08/1849 so the dob on the 1891 census is a bit out but all the other details are correct.
Many thanks
Debbie

So.....did Henrietta**, become Harriett.:D:Deek)
Also, in 1861 census, I would think Harriett c1848.Aylesbury is a niece, and not a daughter. Quite common that. Or William Jenkins, 'played away' with Jemima.eek)
OR...William was married to Jemima, before Magdelen.eek)eek)
I think you need to order this cert, to find mothers maiden name..

But I would order the Aylesbury. 1847 birth cert for sure.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.:)

Harriet's birth certificate arrived in today's post.
Her father is shown as William Jenkins, a Railway Porter, which ties up with what I had. Her mother, however, is shown as Magdelen Jenkins, formerly Jenkins:confused:

Hi Debbie.
What is Harriet's actual birth date, and address where born.?
The baptism I found in Aylesbury, in 1847 was 3 Oct 1847. (William & Jemima).

There is also a marriage for William Jenkins to Magdalene Jenkins A/M/J 1847 - St.Lukes, London. Were they cousins.

In 1851 Census, William & Magdalene have their son Thomas William Jenkins b.1850 Aylesbury. Living at 15, Johnson Street, St.Pancras.
This would explain maiden name of JENKINS on the birth cert.
But it doesn't explain the names at the baptism of Harriet, as William & Jemima. (I think there has been a mistake transcribing).

Harriet was born on 9th August 1847 at Bierton Road, Aylesbury (which isn't far from me at all!). The birth was registered on 5th September so the baptism date looks to be correct. I wonder what they were doing in Aylesbury though:confused:

Hi Debbie.
It was obviously railway related why they were there. But Aylesbury station didn't open until 1863.
Bicester in Oxfordshire opened it's station 10 years earlier, and Banbury station opened around the same time.
Leighton Buzzard station opened even earlier, around 1840 or so.
So, were they en route from one town to the next with railway connections, and maybe changing jobs between railway companies.
If you have a look at the various Railway stations that I've mentioned, and the history of them, you can understand the possibilities.
From London, there were quite a choice of routes going north. Obviously London was the main 'attraction', but from there, your world was your oyster, so to speak.
There is also a possibility, that they had another child in Aylesbury.
Burial - 30 May 1849. Elizabeth Ann JENKYNS aged 7w of Aylesbury.
I cannot find a baptism for her though, nor another appropriate family to attribute her to.
But......a possible.!!

This tree is on Ancestree, but there does not appear to be any sourced citations.
But according to the tree, it goes back to a marriage between John Jenkins & Joan Custine in West Quantoxhead, 28 Jan. 1690. And further back to Symon Jenkins c1536.
I found this when I was searching for Elizabeth Ann JENKYNS c1849. Aylesbury.
