i found this photo with my late grandfathers things
not sure who they are but i think it was taken about 1890s /1900 .
i would like too find out about the uniform .
all i know it was taken at F H Hall art photographer 125 marsh street hanley
stoke on trent staffordshire .

hi,,can you post your late grandads name and when and where born,,,maybe we could trace him back and see if any of his ancestors served in the army? :)

my grandad was john stanyer born 1920 in burslem stoke on trent
his dad was james stanyer born 1879
mother mary hannah beckett born 1884

Can only find 2 births Stanyer/Beckett maiden
Mona 1917 & John 1920 Wolstanton.

so far i have found
my grandfather john stanyer born 1920 -1998 he had three brothers
james stanyer 1908-1917
thomas stanyer 1911-1911
tom stanyer 1914- 1990
and four sisters
ethel stanyer 1903-1966
annie stanyer 1907- 1931
mona stanyer 1911-1912
and mona again 1917-1922
the dates dont seem to be right for the photo .
probably never no who they are but i was interested in what the uniform was .
thanks for the suggestion anyway

Hi I've had a reply from a friend who said it's not Boys Brigade uniform.

It could be worth your while to pay subs to 1911 census.
In the free list I've found James 1879 living in Wolstanton
Mary Hannah aged 27yrs
Florence Ethel 9 yrs, Annie 4yrs, James 3yrs
I hope this is of help.

I found your Thomas born in Wolstanton maiden Beckett
sept qtr 1914
and the death sadly of little Thomas aged 1yr in 1911 Wolstanton
and Mona too 0 yrs 1912.
They often named other children after the ones who had passed away back in those days.
