Hello crankypants,
They are all descendants of Andrew born 28 Feb 1810 Rochester, Kent to parents Peter and Ann KNOWLES.
The family name is sometimes GAUDON. No death has been found for Andrew yet. Their last child was born in 1850 so that's a guide.
Spouse Sarah:
Death # 1349/1875 GANDON SARAH THOMAS MARY SYDNEY
The Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 9 July 1875 p.8
DEATHS
GANDON.-June 9, Woolloomooloo, Sarah, relict of the, late Andrew Gandon, aged 61 years.
It is claimed Sarah arrived on the 'Maria Ann' but I can't prove that. The marriage was 13 Oct 1833 in Sydney.
# V183380 126/1833 GANDON ANDREW FLOOD SARAH LD= St Mary's RC Sydney
V18341457 18/1834 GANDON ANDREW WAINWRIGHT SUSANNAH CV= CofE Berrima, Bong Bong, Sutton Forest, All Saints (Co. Camden)
The second marriage was that of a convict who used forged or stolen discharge papers of Andrew and took his name in order to get permission to marry. :D
I've had no luck finding where Sarah was born abt 1814. Two possible ones if parents are correct on the death reg:
Thomas Flood married Mary Maloney 25 Sep 1810 St Leonards Shoreditch, London
Thomas Winter Flood married Mary Smith 19 May 1807 Chatham, Kent, England
There is no sign of Winter as a middle name in descendants.

Dave

Hello crankypants,
Thank you very much. I'll go through NLA.
How would you like to do the missing E/Rs for this family?
Regards,
Dave

Hello crankypants,
Can't see anything to help in NLA. Tried four variations of the name and just Andrew. 1852 sure would fit otherwise I'd expect to lots more children.
I've found one new GANDON tree but one generation down. It has nothing at all on Andrew & Sarah. :(

Dave

Hello crankypants,
Thank you very much. I'm probably only missing some 1903 and a few later ones with spouse only.
I have some of the burials at Presbyterian Rookwood. Is the date on those records the burial or date of death? I'm still going through NLA and have not found a matching one yet to answer that question. I hope more Rookwood records can be found.
Also I hope we can turn some middle initials into names.

Dave

Hello crankypants,
Here is one with only one still alive in 1903.
Death # 16171/1915 GANDON MARGARET S WILLIAM CATHERINE A GLEBE
Rookwood Cemetery
Presbyterian 5C 0009805 GANDON MARGARET STUART 04 Dec 1915
Buried with daughter Catherine
S= Stewart is actually more accurate (her grandmother's name)
Death # 5299/1892 GANDON WILLIAM ANDREW UNKNOWN GLEBE
Rookwood Cemetery
Presbyterian 4B 0005529 GANDON WILLIAM 6 Apr 1892
The Moreton Bay Courier - 1 Sep 1860 - page 4 - Letters to the Editor
W M GANDON - Late Foreman of the Australian Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1, Sydney.
That's the only ref to a middle initial found so far and I still don't know what it's for.

Dave

Hello crankypants,
A lot more info on the family in England has been found, which surprised me. :)
The Sydney Morning Herald - Monday 15 November 1920 p.8
DEATHS
GANDON.-November 11, 1920, at Sydney, Peter Joseph Gandon, of Parliamentary Hansard staff, aged 69 years.
Must be an error in the 1913 E/R. This one is the journalist.
Please see if you can find his burial record. Thanks.

Dave

Hello crankypants,
Thanks for looking. I have a few of the burials at Catholic and Presbyterian Rookwood and a few at Ryde.
The SANDS (Scotland) side ended up Presbyterian and the CHERRY (Ireland) side ended up RC. :D
I didn't see Margaret Stewart in the index so I presume she can't be found in 1903.

Dave

Hi Dave
Don't know what's going on with this lot but I can't find them.
I searched all Andrew's in 1930 South Sydney Randwick.
Same with Florence Isabell nothing in 1943.
Lets see how I go with finding RILEY.

I agree. It must be more than just a variation with the name for so much to appear to be missing.
