Grandfathers names was William Robert Henry BULL b. 1870 in Newport IoW. Long running family dispute about grandmothers maiden name; on the Marriage certificate it is Harrington, but word of mouth suggest she might have been an O'Brian. Hence the puzzle. Mike.

Hi Mike,

Have you traced Mary on the 1911 census?. If so what info is given as to her place of birth.

Hi only a partial answer to your question

1901 irish census
Residents of a house 1 in Phelan's Lane (Clonmel West Urban, Tipperary)

O Brien Joseph 50 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Clonmel Labourer Can read and write - Irish language No - Married
O Brien Ellen 50 Female Wife Roman Catholic Clonmel House Keeper Can read and write - Irish Language No - Married
Harrington Mary Anne 22 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Clonmel Servant Can read and write - Irish Language No - Not Married

At a guess Ellens child before marriage to Joseph

You posed a good question.. I don't think I would have found it without knowledge from 1911

Dave, Many thanks. But it has stopped many noisy, but enjoyable arguments when the Australian Red starts flowing. But for me a major step forward, thanks and now to Mary Anne's birth and her fathers death -every onward, cheers, Mike
