Hi
I found my first emigration and have no idea where to look next.
Albert Holebrook born 1907 Stockport England
Departed Southampton on 2 Aug 1929 to Wellington NZ on a ship called Rotorua.
Could someone tell me where to look next.
Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul,

If it had been 1829 and not 1929 there would be a chance of finding something. Because of privacy issues many records are not available until the event is 50 or 80 or 100 years old depending what you are looking for. I tried to search NZ BMD index but it seems to be down this morning. I keep getting an error message. I've searched Wellington, NZ cemeteries. So far I've found nothing on Albert.

Here is a list of NZ cemeteries. Not all have an on-line database. Some require you to send requests by email.

Hello Paul, I've just joined the forum, mostly on account of a Twitter message, in response to your query. I note that Dave has already responded, below. Yes, these restrictions are a bit of a pain, to say the least - however, there are several alternate routes you could take here. I am a professional researcher, based in Dunedin, New Zealand - a 5th generation 'Kiwi' with an extensive knowledge of the country's geography and history. I may be able to help - you might like to contact me directly on -
[EMAIL ADDRESS HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR SECURITY REASONS...... I have forwarded your email address onto Paul]

Kind regards
Jennie

Hi Paul
I presume you have the ships log and his parents etc, and are trying to find out where he went after 1929

Hi All
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I have the passenger list for his voyage, his 1911 uk census and my mum, Alberts niece, remembers being told when she was little that he had become a mayor. She doen't know which town or even if its true.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul
The cemetery where Albert is buried doesn't have an on-line database. Suggest you contact me for more details.
