Hi Dave

THE CYCLOPEDIA OF VICTORIA
The late Mr. ABRAHAM BLAND,
of "Aylesbury," Yarram, landed at
Port Albert on the 10th of August,
1857, ha\ing come with his wife and
children from Birkenhead, England,
in the ship "Star of the South" to
Melbourne, and thence by steamer to
Port Albert. Born in Hesset, close
to Bury St. Edmunds, in the county
of Suffolk, in the year 1832, the late
Mr. Bland came from an old yeomanry
family, and, on the completion
of his education, followed farming
pursuits in his native place for some
years. He married, in 1852, Miss
Harriet Bullett, also a native of
Suffolk, who survives him, and,
although over seventy years of age,
is in the very best of health, and
rejoices in a family of four daughters
and three sons, while her grandchildren
number between thirty and
forty. On arrival at Port Albert,
Mr. Bland worked for the late Mr.
John Carpenter, a well-known sawmiller
and contractor, and proved
himself an adept in that line of business
for a period of seven years.
He then rented the "Aylesbury" pro-
perty from Mr. Carpenter for four
years, when he purchased it, and
went in for farming pursuits, and
carried on dairying and grazing up
to the time of his lamented death in
1898. Mr. Bland also was the
owner of a flour mill and saw mill,
which were destroyed by fire, as was
also a three-storied building erected
1o replace the original. .He was for
thirty years a member of the Yarram
Shire Council, and was held in high
esteem throughout the district with
which he was so long and honorably
associated.

Sent whole page which includes photo of Mr & Mrs A BLAND.
