Please can someone help me? I am working my way (Slowly!) through my family history and using a computer program to store the details. My question is, when people save images from the census onto their computer, what do they save each one as, because obviously each one can be used for a complete family. At the moment I am saving them as the head of household and bodging my way through it!
Any help gratefully received
Thanks

Yes I would do it by Head of Family, make sure the year of census is in title as I have forgotten in the past and it makes it harder when you are searching back.

I've been doing surname first name (of head of family) and year - and sometimes place on the end if the filename isn't getting too long. Seems to be easy enough to find them again so far (and I have 600 people in my tree) - but then I also transcribe all of a family's census records onto hard copy as I find that an easier first reference point.

I do Head of household, Year of Birth, Place and census year. So often the head of household has younger people with the same name or a same-name uncle/cousin etc nearby so year of birth helps. It can get really confusing can't it? Especially when neighbours are branches of your tree too and one image is sufficient but another reference needed  I store mine on an external hard drive and also put them in "photo albumns" on my Tribal Pages website giving the census year as a title to the albumn.
