Hi. Some of my ancestors had a brief sojourn in Ireland (-5 years), and I haven't been able to find out where. However their son was born there, so I'm hoping if I can find his birth it will at least tell me where in Ireland I should be looking for more info.
Have tried IFHF but no luck. The birth in question is
Charles Farquharson, born 1891 Ireland.
Parents Archibald Farquharson, gamekeeper, and Alice.
Many thanks for any pointers!

Hi Tamsin
Did you find your Charles? If not do you know if Charles stay in Ireland or not? I was wondering if he hadnt whether there maybe some records else where for him that might give you a lead.

Thanks for the suggestion, gibbo. I've got the whole family in 1901 (when Charles is 10) in Argyll, that's how I know he was born in Ireland (shame they didn't write whereabouts!). I can't find him or the rest of the family anywhere in the 1911 census for England/Wales, so assume they are all still in Scotland. I'll have to wait until Scotland releases the 1911 census to find out for sure I guess!

Hi Tasmin,
Have you check army records for your Charles? There are a few charles farquharson's in the medal cards for WW1. There is one from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Corps. You may have already checked them but i thought it could be worth a try. If one of them is yours there could be some info that might help you. just a thought.

I *think* I checked via ancestry, but not sure (those medal cards aren't very helpful I find, although the service records are a goldmine!). I'll just scurry off and have another look, thanks!
Edited to add: GOT HIM! Thanks heaps gibbo. There's even two sets of records cos he reenlisted in the machine gun corps (shudder). And besides being born in the right year, in Antrim, and enlisting in Argyll, it also states categorically that his father is Archibald. Hoorah.
