Hi all
Can anyone help me to help my friend please
These people were on census records but no births can be found for the children:
Dennis and Ann Moore (nee Hughes)
children -
Marcella b1882
John b1884
Kate b1887
Ann b1889
Address is Barmouth St Liverpool. Marriage of Dennis and Ann found at St Augustines Church in Great Howard Street - Dec 1879 and friend has certificate
Cannot find birth records for kids - he is assuming they were all baptised at same church as it was only 2 streets away from their home
I have tried to help as much as I can but am stumped, If registers were not released how did he find the marriage?

Hi
There's a birth reg for a Marcello Moore Mar qtr 1883 W Derby 8b 451..... although in the Census it's spelt Marsella.
There's also births for John, Catherine & Ann in West Derby around the correct times.
Cheers....

I can see the family in 1891 although I haven't found the couple in 1881. As one child has the unusual name of Marcella (or Marsella as spelt in 1891) I have looked through all the marcella's reg. in the Liverpool district and agree that there is no possible misspelling. There are possible John Moores reg. but without certificates you cannot say whether they include this one, but again I cannot see a Kate, Kathleen Catherine etc.
Are you saying that there was or wasn't any Baptisms for the children. I wonder whether it is possible that this is the problem, if the couple were illiterate it is possible that they did not know that they had to register Births. In the case of a marriage if it took place in a C of E church then the church notifies the district registrar as a matter of course. Baptisms are different this is a private ceremony between the church and the participants. It was possible (and not unheard of) for a couple thinking that if they took there infant along to be baptised that registration was taken care of.
Have the baptism records at the church been checked to see whether these children were in fact baptised at the church?

I think Trace has cracked it, we all concentrated on Liverpool and forgot that some of it could be in other areas.

Thanks everyone for your searching.
My friend has ordered so many certificates and I told them they need to be sure before hand! There are a few Dennis' - one is spelt with only one N. John the son is also known as John James - this is where Peter has spent heaps of money on certificates - he has heaps of the suckers. He ordered every Dennis and every John James Moore cert he found listed. I had a look and it confused the heck out of me because of all the name double-ups in the families called Moore. We are now unsure which family is his? Although Marcella is definately his - he has ordered a birth cert for the Marcello that Trace found (poss transcribed incorrectly) and hoping it will come in the mail this week.
He did tell me that the family men all worked on the docks or were merchant seaman and that they were all definately Catholics, that's why I am so puzzled I cannot find any Baptism
cheers

Hi Karen,
Just as a point of interest, Barmouth St. / Hedley St. / Woodstock St. are all in spitting distance of each other, right by Liverpool docklands.
