I'm getting up to speed on this one. :2fun:

William was born in SA in 1872 to the same parents as the Douglas who married Alma, so it looks as though we have ONE Douglas Ross. Yes, Chapman is their father's middle name.

Trixie is playing very hard to get.

Hi Dave

Aldine History of New South Wales
JOHN LOITERTON was born in Lincolnshire in 1847, and came to New South Wales when seven years old. His father was one of the earliest farmers in the Camden district and rented a farm at Bowral for some years. In 1872 he selected 100 acres of land in the parish of Jindalee, and is holding at present 620 acres, of which 140 acres are cultivated for the production of wheat. He also carries on sheep grazing to a large extent.

Hi Dave

I didn't include the one Margaret LOITERTON in 1936 because there are two Margaret's in 1930 and wasn't sure what Margaret this was.

1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll - Hume - Cootamundra
LOITERTON Frank Desmond, Elma Bria, Crown street, labourer
LOITERTON Margaret, Elm Bria, Crown street, landlady

And guess what no LOITERTON'S in QLD E/R on A...........Y.
Only one in QLD 1949.
Jean Isobel LOITERTON - Oxley - Goodna

Can't find anything for John LOITERTON who died in QLD.

Actually I think this is the other Margaret, looked back at 1930 and she is in Queen st, with James LOITERTON a retired farmer.

Hello crankypants,

Thanks. Yes, it looks like the other Margaret.

John Snr (d. Feb 1893 - brother of Charles who had a son John too - one in Hurley St) went to Queensland with his three children, John (d. May 1893), Elizabeth (d. 1902) and Sarah Ann (d. 1903) (married John Cady WHITLE - we have done them)

Elizabeth married Esau FRANCIS on 18 Jun 1859 at Cobbitty so I guess that means John married.

I can't see a birth for Jean in NSW or Qld. with LOITERTON or the usual alternatives LORTERTON or LAURTERTON. Of course she may have been born after the close of the index. If so who are her parents? Or she married a LOITERTON?

Ah:

4235/1942 LOITERTON CYRIL KENNETH - MANSON JEAN ISOBEL TEMORA

7852/1947 LOITERTON CYRIL KENNETH - COOPER VERONCIA JEAN SYDNEY

That looks like a divorce.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

I can't find anything more on Charles James LEWIN. One site with FLETCHER and POWELL connections does not give a birth or death for Charles.

Addition:
I have just found something that throws a spanner or two in the works:

Death
2194/1969 LEWIN CHARLES JOHN ALFRED JAMES SARAH KINGSTON SYDNEY

That means the one who married Florence in 1928 is not the one born in 1887. Charles John must have been the one who married Alice in 1908. The one who is an engineer in the ER who married Florence in 1928 was born when and died when? There is no doubt the one who married Flora has middle name of James:

3991/1881 LEWIN CHARLES JAMES FLETCHER FLORA L GRENFELL

Flora died in 1921 so it's possible Charles remarried in 1928 ??

---------

If the other researcher is correct and the one born on 17 May 1850 had a middle name of James. He died 1892 if we believe the death reg and matching parents.

Hello crankypants,

It's Sunday - perhaps it should be L = LOST eek)

9640/1921 FOSTER FLORA L ILLINGWORTH MARY GOULBURN

It's just coincidence Henry's middle name is Lewin.

I suppose we return to Flora's first spouse 1850-1892.

The one born in 1887 is Charles John LEWIN and he died 1969, so if the Charles James who married Flora L FLETCHER (daughter of Illingworth) died in 1892 then who is the Charles James who married in 1928 and is listed in all the ER and when did he die?

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. LEEDER has been difficult to trace even for descendants because he was born William and most references have him as W F but I believe he called himself Frederick as in marriage reg.

Birth:
V1856592 159/1856 LEEDER WILLIAM H JOHN P ANN

Parents John Palmer LEEDER and Ann or Annie SHILLINGTON.

Marriage
5304/1878 LEEDER FREDERICK WILLIAM FLETCHER FLORA J YOUNG

Died 12 Nov 1912 Blayney

--------
I have no other Arthur STORRIER. A J died in Dubbo in 1908. His first spouse died in 1895 and he married Mary A LEE in 1905.

--------
Oswald married
5599/1912 STORRIER OSWALD A F LEARY ELEANOR CROOKWELL

This may be her birth:

29579/1888 LEARY ELLEN C JOHN MARY A JUNEE

and there is an Ellen STORRIER in 1930 in Werriwa and in 1936 in Eden Monaro. No sign of a second marriage for her. I can't find Eleanor's death. I searched with el*

William Owen NEWBERY b. 14 Jun 1850 Adelaide d. 28 Jun 1915 Hurstville bu. 29th Woronora Cemetery, NSW

Now, there is no sign of his birth in the SA records nor the marriage of his parents, Frederick William (no, no way are they reversed - he called himself 'FRED' :D ) & Mary Ann FURNER in Adelaide in 1848/1849 either.

There is the birth of one sibling:

Surname: NEWBERY
Given Names: Jane
Date: 1851-11-19
Sex: F
Father: Frederick William NEWBERY
Mother: Mary Ann FERNER
Birth Place/Residence: Adelaide
District Code: Ade

Cross Reference:

The other 9 children were born in Goulburn.

Frederick's first spouse Sarah BROWN died on 24 Nov 1847 Goulburn bu. 25th St Saviour's Cemetery, Goulburn.

--------
Lots of the GANDON are listed under GAUDON and others are not listed at all.

Allan Raymond's sister was born in 1904 and died in 1905 in Annandale. Parents married in 1900 so I guess Allan is the eldest.

Sex, Surname , FirstNames , State , Address , Town , RollNum , Division , SubDivision , Occupation

I don't have the other ERs after 1903 yet. He is in Barton. Thanks.

Death
18199/1953 GANDON SARAH LYDIA WILLIAM MARY ANNE ROCKDALE

Parents marriage:

1562/1862 JACQUES WILLIAM ONEILL - MARY ANN BURRANGONG

Again, the birth of a sibling but no sign of Sarah's birth.

----------
The name has many variations, including le Clerc, Le Clerq...

Someone found me these some time ago:

LECLERC JANET C 1914 HARRY O BLANCHE PADDINGTON R 1914 35626

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. No, I've not seen that before. Some say he married Mary Ann in Goulburn but I can't find the marriage in NSW BDM either. I wonder if there is a film of the St Saviour Church records somewhere.

Oh I just found something in my notes:

NEWBERY Frederick W St Saviour Goulburn 24 Nov 1847 AGCI

I don't have what event it is, I think it is listed as a death or burial but perhaps an error and that might be the marriage.

Very interesting. I just found this:

Addition:
"I am trying to find some documentation to say that my relative Albert William Perdriau married Margaret Gardner in India in 1885.

Albert and Margaret had two children, Susan born in Jhansi 1886 and a son Donald , who died quite young. Margaret died at childbirth and Albert went back to Australia after a couple of years without Susan. Susan was then looked after by some of her relations from her Mother's side, a Chief Justice of the High Court.

I am trying to establish if the Albert William Perdriau Margaret Gardner married had travelled to India and stayed for a few years as the story goes, or if perhaps Margaret's husband had always lived in India and was William Perdriau (relative of James Augustus Perdriau who died in India in 1917 having lived there all his life and was an officer of the Indian Subordinate Medical Department in Lucknow.) He was the son of George Augustus Perdriau who died in Lucknow date unknown."

No doubt this is the same family.

Hello crankypants,

What have I done? :D :D

Just like the other researcher, I have no information that the William in the marriage record in India is the Albert William born in Balmain in 1864. Albert is a cousin of James Augustus. I don't know when James was born but his parents George Augustus and Mary MUNNIAH married in 1856:

Marriage Year 1852 - 1860
Husband First Names George Augustus
Husband Surname Perdrian
Wife First Names Mary
Wife Surname Munnah

Presidency of Marriage BENGAL
Marriage Year 1856
Husband First Names Geo A
Husband Surname Perdrian
Wife First Names Mary
Wife Surname Munniah
Prefix N11
Source Year 1856
Volume Number 1
Folio 24

I have no information they had a son William. I have George's death:

Deaths as reported in 'Domestic Occurrences' in the Times of India 1876 Editions
Surname Perdrian
Given name(s) George A
Place Lucknow
Year 1876
month Mar
day 1
Register Entry March 1st at Lucknow, Mr George Perdrian, second son of the late Commander Stephen Perdrian, Royal Navy, aged 62 years
Edition Year 1876
Edition Date 6 Mar
Editn 056

Son Joseph made a will in 1912 and he died that year or perhaps 1917. No record of his death found yet.

Hi Dave

This looks an interesting site. My first time searching here.

http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_person_search.php

The marriage certainly fits, however being listed as William unfortunately doesn't really confirm it to be Albert William.

The PERDRIAU(N) family look to be an interesting line to research.
I'm going through the U.K newspapers to see if anything appears.
I noticed in indexes this name appears a lot in early South Carolina, America.
Anyway will keep searching, cross fingers.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

I have several Huguenot families including GANDON and PERDRIAU, both very interesting. I found that site on India some months ago. The PERDRIAU family is from La Rochelle in France in 1600s. One branch went to Santee, South Carolina and then a branch of that family to St Kitts. Albert William's grandfather Stephen was born in St Kitts in 1768.

Stephen joined Royal Navy on 12 Aug 1780 as Captain's servant on HMS 'Venus' in WI Squadron of Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney (a family friend). Served on HMS 'Boreas' and then HMS 'Endymion'.
Later on 2 May 1785 was Horatio Nelson's servant during one tour of duty Nelson had in the West Indies on HMS 'Boreas'.
Later to become Commander (Cdr) - no record of him serving in Battle of Trafalgar.

--------
Andrew GANDON joined the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman on 5th July 1828 at Chatham. His Majesty's ship Crocodile's papers describe him as a Painter by trade, 5 ft 2 inches in height, of fair complexion and with Dark Hair and Eyes. On 16 Nov 1829 Andrew GANDON was discharged from 'HMS Crocodile' at Port Jackson, Sydney. His discharge paper was stolen/forged? by a convict and used so the convict could marry under an assumed name.

I have a lot of information about both families, but lots of gaps too. The PERDRIAU family is connected to my grandmother's side - FURNER and the GANDON to my grandfather's side SANDS.

One day we will get to look at both families in more detail. :D :D

Morning Dave,

Trixie passed away in 1974. Not sure if my Mum (her Granddaughter) can remember when, but it was in the same year my Grandfather, Gordon Hugh LOVELY (Trixie's son), passed away. I only have very vague memories of Trixie as I was only 4 when she passed away.

The Barton Rd house was in the family for many years and was only sold by my Great Aunty Dorothy (Lovely) in about 1994. We used to attend Lovely family Christmas parties there every year until I was in my late teens. Was the only time we got to catch up with the large extended family and all the second cousins etc.

Trixie met William Harvey Chapman LOVELY on board a passenger ship to London I believe (from memory). Mum has some records - I think a couple of pictures of Trixie when she was young, and a poem William wrote for her.

Don't trust the IGI for the marriage date - so far I haven't been able to find any record of the marriage date of Trixie to William, but I do recall Uncle Geoff Lovely (Trixie's son - passed away in 2006) saying he stumbled across paperwork suggesting they didn't actually marry until they were had to get passports to go on an overseas trip in the 1950's.....He thought it hilarious that his upstanding and proper parents apparently had not been married and had had a brood of children! ;)

I will ask Mum if she can email anything she has of Trixie.

Am happy to pass on anything you might be interested in, and am keen to share anything you might be willing to share on the Furner and Whiteman families.

[Email address has been edited for security reason..... i have forwarded it onto Dave for you]

Thanks Dave

Thanks for your reply and the contact email. I was a bit too fast and sent off a brief email before reading your last post. :)

I have no other information about the marriage except a date of 1913 I found somewhere.

I noticed Trixie's mother and grandmother were both FURNERs. How far back with the WHITEMAN and FURNER lines do you want to go? I have the FURNER line back to 1666 in Brede, East Sussex :D

Hi Dave!

I have the Furners and the Whitemans back to Sussex, but not quite so far as you.

You have William Harvey Chapman Lovely's details. His father was James Chapman LOVELY and was born ca 1842 in Kensington, London, to William Lovely and Eliza (nee Chapman).

William H C Lovely was previously married to Florence Emily May Anderson, who was Australian, but they married in London in the late 1890's. They were living at "Cranbrook" (House), Rose Bay, Sydney in 1899 (renting I believe); apparently part of the "social set" according to some newspaper articles I found. Funny, because he was able to so readily mix with any type of person - he worked alongside and was often listing himself as a miner, in later life! He was a mining engineer, and a couple of he and Trixie's boys became engineers also.

Trixie's eldest daughter, Jean Alison Lovely, was apparently the first Miss Queensland in the Miss Australia contest. She got into huge trouble with the Matron at the hospital where she worked as a Nurse (in Gympie) and apparently was reprimanded for "bringing the profession of nursing into disrepute" She was also a very tall lady - taller than most of her brothers, except Uncle Malcolm.

Sorry, I'm rambling here. Still waiting to here from Mum re any more info on Trixie.

Cheers

Hello crankypants,

Yes, yes, yes to the marriage and the 2 children and Sarah's death. That's why I can't get my head around the marriage to Elizabeth.

I don't understand the 19 Dec 1849 marriage at Goulburn to Elizabeth JEFFERIES when children to Owen and Sarah were born in 1850 & 1852 and Sarah died in 1855.

Reg# V184985 86/1849 FURNER OWEN JEFFERIES ELIZABETH IQ= Wesleyan Methodist Goulburn/Gunning/Yass

Death # V18551138 110 FURNER ELIZABETH AGE 27

I searched NSW 1830- and no births for Owen TURNER. Even newspapers mix the two in the same article.

Dave

HI Dave,

I have Sarah Furner (Nee Slater) being buried on 20 May 1855.

From memory, I think I got an extract from her death certificate (transcribed by Marbract from memory).

I will try to track it down to confirm - its probably on an old CD i have somewhere...

Cheers
Timna

Hello Timna,

Thanks. It looks like an error in the Old Goulburn Cemetery transcription.
